Objective 1. Feedstock Development
The primary goal is to develop new and improved perennial grass cultivars and hybrids that can be used on marginal cropland in the Midwestern region for the production of biomass for bioenergy.
The Feedstock Development research team will expand and build upon the two primary public perennial grass breeding programs in the region, ARS-Lincoln, NE and ARS-Madison, WI. Both sites have demonstrated the capacity to carry out large scale regional research. We will utilize these existing large germplasm resources and new germplasm sources using conventional, molecular, and biochemical technologies.
